Bloomin’ Inn History

Before 1995 Colleen and Francis Cyr travelled with a craft business to help make the farm a profitable business. They travelled with Christmas decorations and dried flower arrangements all across western Canada, farmers markets in the summer and Christmas shows throughout November and December.

Travelling eventually wore them down to thinking about ‘’at home profit making ventures on the farm’’ and that’s when ag tourism entered the picture full scale. When the Bloomin’ Inn first opened over twelve years ago it didn’t look like what you see today. With four rooms for bed and breakfast it was a small step to diversification. But soon to follow, was the conversion of the farm shop into two beautiful cabins off the garden. The heated workshop facility was expanded from the inside to include a retreat facility for painters and crafters and business meetings.

Our Country Store, the antiques and country shop located on site was originally in a storage building. Customers liked it so much though, tthe 1902 original farm house was transformed into a two-story antique shop where you could find the perfect gift. Along the way 4 more rooms have been added into the main house bringing sleeping capacity up to 35 people.

High Country Meats, the on-farm meat store, started out as freezers in the basement and then moved into a walk-in freezer outside. Customers can shop while visiting the Inn, or order by phone or e-mail and have commercially inspected free range chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, eggs and pork on there table. A line of reddi-made meals and baking have been additions to High Country Meats giving diversification to the changing consumer. The dining room has followed suit and can comfortably seat 36 guests in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

As the story evolves, a humble farm-house kitchen became a commercially inspected facility and received it’s new addition in fall of 2006. Opened in 2007 is The Pantry, the in-house farm store for Alberta Food Products. It includes products from High Country Meats as well as a honey, fruit juice, wine, pickles, salsa, jams and jellies. Sometimes it seems the years have just flown by, but the ideas never stop coming. Twelve years ago, coming to the Bloomin’ Inn was a relaxing enjoyable stay. Now even with all the changes, the people who serve you are still the same hosts and they still want to give you that relaxing and enjoyable stay.
